Unlike conventional cloud-based PDF utilities that transmit your private contracts, financial statements, and personal records across remote web servers, PDF Dark operates 100% locally and offline on your device.

Zero Cloud Uploads: No document, image, page, or text extracted within PDF Dark is ever uploaded, transmitted, or backed up to any server owned by PDF Dark or any third party. All PDF processing takes place entirely in local device memory using native on-device rendering engines.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

We believe the most secure data is the data that is never collected:

No Personal Identifiable Information (PII): We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account credentials.
No Document Content or Metadata: We cannot access, view, index, or store the contents of your PDF files.
No Third-Party Analytics or Advertising: We do not embed telemetry trackers, advertising identifiers (GAID), or profiling SDKs (such as Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Meta Pixel, etc.).
No Location Tracking: We do not track or request GPS, coarse location, or IP location.

3. Permissions Requested & How They Are Used

PDF Dark only requests the standard Android system permissions required to provide offline file utility functionality:

Storage / Document Access (`ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT`, `READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE`)	Used solely to let you browse and select PDF documents from your local filesystem or cloud storage providers (Google Drive, Dropbox) for offline reading and manipulation.
Photos & Media (`READ_MEDIA_IMAGES`)	Used exclusively when you choose to use the "Images to PDF" tool, allowing you to select gallery photos to compile into a local PDF.

All file access is mediated strictly through Android's secure Storage Access Framework (SAF). PDF Dark never scans your device storage in the background.

4. Local Data Storage & Preferences

PDF Dark stores a minimal set of user preferences exclusively on your device using Android Jetpack DataStore:

Reader Settings: Your selected reading mode (Normal Day, Soft Dark, AMOLED Black, or Warm Sepia) and custom contrast/darkness slider adjustments.
Recent Documents: A locally cached list of recently opened document paths and last-read page numbers to enable quick 1-tap document resumption.

You can clear your recent documents at any time directly from the home screen, or clear all app data via Android System Settings.

5. Third-Party Services & Links

pdf-dark.com: The app provides links to our official website for desktop web utilities and documentation. Browsing the website is governed by the website's privacy terms.
File Sharing: When you choose to use the "Share PDF" button, the document is handed off to your chosen target application (e.g. Gmail, WhatsApp, Drive) via Android's native system share sheet. PDF Dark does not control how third-party sharing targets handle documents.

6. Children's Privacy

PDF Dark does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in certain jurisdictions). Because the application operates offline with no account registration or analytics, it is fully compliant with COPPA and GDPR-K.
